           Lecture: “Looking Back, Looking Ahead”

9/12/08 Cynthia Corbin workshop: Art Simply Done
“Begin with the idea—then what? This class is designed to get your idea to the design wall and into
your fabric. Simplify! Compose and construct the possibilities!  Students will complete four to six small
studies exploring the variations of a single idea”.

9/13/08 Cynthia Corbin workshop: Without a Parachute
“Think of this one as daredevil piecing! Students will cut and compose a scrap study, using rough cut
shapes arranged in a pleasing and random composition. Construction will be based on freehand
    techniques.”

10/16/08 Judi Blaydon

Lecture: “A Quiltmaker’s Art – Alive and Flourishing”

10/17/08 Judi Blaydon workshop: Mist on the Moon
Clustered multiples of large-scale Drunkard’s Path patch create the suggestion of
quadrants of the moon interrupted and altered by a sweep of mist that floats across the surface. The
resulting illusion is airy and atmospheric and enriches a classic design by adding dimension, depth, and
light. You’ll be challenged to use transparency, expressive color, and contrast of value and to use the style
and personality of your fabrics to state
content that is lyrical, mysterious, celestial, and inventive. We’ll also discuss eloquent quilting patterns that
    will enhance your design.

3/12/09 Esterita Austin

           Lecture: “Classic Rock”

3/13/09 Esterita Austin workshop: Creating the Illusion of Depth
“This workshop doesn't require a sewing machine and is great for all levels of experience. In this workshop
you’ll train your eye and sharpen your design ability. Learn how to create the illusion of depth by working
with three design elements: perspective, value and light source. You’ll learn an easy, no fail, technique of
fusing. There is no accuracy with seam allowances, no points to match and no sewing machines. This is a
loose technique that allows for greater freedom in construction. Build your confidence to go beyond the
quilt surface into its visual depth.”

4/2/09  Sharon Stroud     www.sharonstroud.com
            Lecture: “Dresden Plates and More”

4/3/09 Sharon Stroud workshop: Cutwork Applique
“Try cutwork applique on a small scale as you work on a 14-inch wallhanging. You will learn to make the
pattern, transfer it to cloth and begin the cutwork applique technique. We will cover points, curves and
reverse applique. Students should be familiar with needleturn applique.”

    Paper-Pieced Blocks.

5/16/09 Carol Doak workshop: Bright Stars Wall Quilt
Use two simple foundations from Carol Doak's Simply Sensational 9-Patch Stars to produce this dramatic
medallion style quilt. Learn about choosing fabrics and how to paper piece
efficiently and accurately and most of all enjoy the process. This small wall quilt is the perfect vehicle for
